Electric golf cart vs push cart: is the Bag Boy Volt worth it?
An electric walking cart solves one specific problem: the hill at the 12th that makes somebody give up walking and take a ride. If that is the golfer you are buying for, this is the upgrade that matters. If they play a flat course and walking is not the issue, a manual cart is the better use of the money.
When electric is the right call
Hilly courses. Pushing 35 pounds of bag and cart uphill for four hours is the reason most walkers quit walking. Motor assistance removes it.
Injuries and age. Back, knee and shoulder problems end walking careers. An electric cart often buys several more seasons on foot.
36-hole days. The second round is where the legs go. Electric keeps the afternoon round enjoyable.
When a manual push cart is the smarter buy
Flat course, no injuries, tight budget, or a small car boot — a manual cart is lighter, cheaper, has no battery to charge and nothing to fail. Most golfers are better served by a good three or four-wheel push cart.

Is an electric golf cart worth it over a push cart?
If the course is hilly or the golfer has back, knee or shoulder trouble, yes. An electric cart carries the load and you steer. On a flat course a manual push cart does the same job for a third of the price.

A charged lithium battery is designed to cover a full 18-hole round. Charge it the night before rather than the morning of a tee time, and store it indoors over winter.
Are electric carts allowed at golf courses?
Most public courses allow motorised walking carts, but some private clubs restrict them. Check with the course before buying if it is a gift for someone who plays one club almost exclusively.
Electric cart or remote control?
Follow-along and remote carts cost considerably more and add failure points. A speed-controlled electric cart like the Volt gives you the hill assistance, which is the part that actually matters.
